In the quiet town of Shady Grove, Israel Barret, an elderly pastor who has given his life to the church, spends his days tending to the spiritual needs of the people. He is adored by all, content and wanting for nothing in his idyllic home town. It is not until troubling nightmares begin to torment him that his world changes irrevocably. 

 

    After an accident that leads to him being placed in the hospital, Israel is visited by a nightmarish figure that claims to be a messenger from God. The messenger gives Israel a seemingly simple instruction: to confess his sins. What follows is a devastating spiral into despair as Israel is faced with the most trying moments of his life, a journey that threatens to undo the very foundations of his faith.
